나의 중학교 국사/세계사 선생님을 원망한다. 나의 선생님들은 이렇게 재미있는 역사를 나에게 외워야 하는 것이라는 이미지로 각인시키면서 역사공부에서 멀어지게 하였다. 교과서의 각 사건들 중 선생님이 밑줄을 그으라는 사건들이 중요한 사건이요, 밑줄이 없는 사건은.. 그저 그런 사건이었다. 근.현대사는 가르치지 않았다.
나의 국어/윤리 선생님을 원망한다. 국어선생님은.. 나에게 “문학을 즐기라” 라고 이야기 해주지 않으셨다. 시는 즐기고 느낄 대상이 아닌, 그 뜻까지 고정되어 해석과함께 외워야 하는 대상이었다. 그 당시 학교에서 틀에짜여진 시의 해석을 외우던 장면은 지금 상상만해도 진절머리가 난다.
윤리선생님은..(전공이 철학이 아니시긴했다) 그리스로마신화 하나 이야기해주지 않았다. 하긴 그당시의 윤리교과서는 context 없이 text만을 달달외우는 교육이었다. 누가 무슨 유명한 말을 했는지 외우고, 성선설을 주창한 학자 리스트와 성악설을 주창한 학자리스트를 외우는 것이 핵심이었다.
집에있는 서적을 뒤적이다.. 또는 근본적인 질문을 가지고 고민을 하다가, 문학/역사/철학을 마구 읽으면서 빠져드는 때가 있다(내가 요즘에 그렇다). 한번 보기 시작하면 멈출 수 없는 ‘프리즌 브레이크’ (미드) 처럼 , 문학/역사/철학를 읽는 매력 또한 중독적이다. 미드는 언젠가는 끝나지만, 인문학 공부는 끝이없다.
우리나라에서도 문학/역사/철학을 외우지않고 즐기도록 교육하는.. 선생님들이 많아졌으면 한다.
